Repeal Virginia's $1.4 billion tax hike!

Virginia revenue surplus now at $1.2 billion

At its meeting this week, the Board of Directors of the Fairfax County Taxpayers Alliance voted to ask the Virginia General Assembly to completely rescind last year's $1.4 billion tax hike.

The text of the email sent to each of Virginia's 140 delegates and state senators is:

Dear Senators and Delegates of the Virginia General Assembly

In light of the recently-reported $1.2 billion surplus in state revenues, the Fairfax County Taxpayers Alliance urges you to completely repeal last year's $1.4 billion tax hike, including the increase in the sales tax.  We urge you to restore the cuts in income-tax deductions for seniors, who are hard hit by real estate taxes.

We ask you for a plan to control soaring spending for welfare, including Medicaid, and public education, which are driving the tax increases.  Why is funding in these areas far exceeding growth in  population, enrollment, and inflation?

Lastly, we would like to see a detailed response from the General Assembly about the recommendations in the Wilder Commission report.

Thank you for your attention.

Sincerely, Arthur Purves
President
Fairfax County Taxpayers Alliance
