The "typical" Fairfax County household will pay $10,208 dollars in FY2004 for state and county taxes. This includes state income tax, state and local sales taxes, utility taxes, personal property tax, and real estate tax. Adjusted for inflation, this is a 25 percent tax increase compared to ten years ago. Individual state income taxes increased 40 percent compared to ten years ago. Notice that Fairfax County real estate tax increases have completely offset the reduction in the personal property tax payment to the county. The so-called car-tax cut acutally masked an enormous increase in household taxes. Note: There are 2.7 persons in the "typical" Fairfax County household.
